Serving Southbury families since 1997, Pack 162 is an inclusive, family-centered Cub Scout pack open to both boys and girls in grades K through 5. Chartered by the South Britain Congregational Church, we bring families together to inspire young people to live by the Cub Scout motto: "Do Your Best."
Our Core Aims
Our program is guided by the foundational aims of Scouting in order to help young people build a strong framework for life:
Character Development: Helping them learn moral strength, values, and how to make good choices through the Scout Oath and Law.
Citizenship: Teaching them how to be good neighbors, respect their communities, and understand their role in the country.
Leadership Development: Building confidence and skills so they can guide others and take on positive responsibilities.
Personal Fitness: Encouraging them to stay physically strong, healthy, and mentally awake.
How We Achieve This
We bring Scouting to life through dynamic, hands-on experiences centered on outdoor adventure, skill-building, and family connection:
Unforgettable Outdoor Adventures: Camping under the stars, hiking local Connecticut trails, roasting marshmallows over campfires, and learning essential skills form the heart of our program.
Unique, Hands-On Experiences: Scouts race custom wooden cars in the Pinewood Derby, build rockets, spend the night at local museums and attractions, conquer obstacles, and participate in community service projects that leave lasting memories.
Family-Centered Connections: Parents, caregivers and siblings are always welcome to join in the action—sharing weekend campouts, celebrating rank advancements, and creating lifelong memories side-by-side as family.
Small-Group Dens, One Big Pack: Kids learn and explore alongside peers their own age in small groups called Dens (Kindergarten Lion through 5th Grade Arrow of Light). Dens meet for age-tailored outdoor adventures and hands-on projects, then join together as a full Pack to celebrate achievements, race Pinewood Derby cars, and tackle big family campouts.
Trained, Supportive Adult Leaders: Safety always comes first. Our dedicated adult volunteers complete comprehensive training to foster a safe, welcoming environment where every Scout feels empowered to take on new challenges.
Building Tomorrow’s Leaders: Outdoor navigation, practical self-reliance, and hands-on problem-solving build real-world confidence, creating a natural pathway into local Scouts BSA Troops and life beyond.
